Flood Debris Collection

May 7th, 2010

Beginning Monday, May 10, the City of Brentwood will initiate collection and disposal of household debris from homes affected by the recent floods.  This service is expected to continue for approximately 3 weeks.

If you have flood debris please follow these steps:

  • Call the Brentwood Public Works Department at 371-0080 to confirm that your home is on the City’s list of flood impacted residences.
  • All material to be collected must be stacked beside the street.  Crews cannot enter on to private property to remove materials.  Do not block the street when stacking items.
  • Only flood damaged household debris will be collected as part of this service.  No chemicals, paint or hazardous materials.
  • Debris should be separated in three piles as follows:

1)    Household debris such as a furniture, carpeting, drywall, insulation, fencing, etc.

2)    Electrical appliances including heat and air conditioning units.

3)    Brush which will be collected as part of the normal monthly chipper service.

If your home was affected by the flood but you do not have any debris to be removed, you should still call the Public Works Department at 371-0080 to be sure your home is on the City’s list of flood impacted residences.

Anyone affected by the flooding is also advised to register with FEMA to be eligible for assistance.  To register, call FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) from 7:00 a.m. – 10 p.m. or go online to www.disasterassistance.gov.  Also visit FEMA Tennessee Severe Storms for more details: http://www.fema.gov/news/event.fema?id=12789
